7 Reasons To Love Black Cats And National Cat Day
Cats. Cats. Cats! October 27 was National Black Cat Day and October 29 is National Cat Day! We LOVE it and we LOVE our cats.
We know there are myths that surround not only cats, but black cats specifically. Whether you're a cat lover, a cat liker or someone who considers himself a dog lover only, we believe you will be interested in these cat and black cat facts. If you have a friend who has cats or if you have a shelter or rescue that has cats available for rescue or foster, take some time this month to see if the shelter is accepting help from volunteers. If you can't volunteer at a local shelter because of coronavirus, reach out and ask what they need and drop off a donation to help care for the cats waiting for their forever homes!
We have ways to celebrate cats!
Consider some of these ways in which cats enhance our lives and how we can celebrate them!
- They can make you smarter! It's true! A survey found that cat parents score higher on intelligence tests than dog owners. Something to think about!
- If you have a cat in the house, you probably won't have mice!
- They are funny! During the times your cat is awake, interact with him and see how funny he can be when you play with him.
- If you are a camera bug, your cat can be your subject. They love the camera -- naturally.
- If you live in a small space, a cat is an ideal roommate.
- They clean themselves -- no grooming appointment needed.
- Living with a cat just may help you live longer! Petting a cat can ease stress and lower your blood pressure.
- They are snuggly.
- They are cute.
- Cats have unique markings, purrs, meows and purr-sonalities
Black cats are NOT bad luck. That is a superstition that, unfortunately still seems to be believed. A black cat is no different than a white cat, a calico cat, a Siamese cat or any other color cat inbetween. They are loving, funny companions. Contrary to popular belief -- cats enjoy being with their humans and a cat will greet you at the door (especially if you pay them attention when they do!)
