5 Reasons To Love Senior Dogs

At Magoos Pet we LOVE all animals, but we do have a soft spot for senior dogs. November is Adopt a Senior Dog Month and we want to give you five reasons we love senior dogs and would love to know why you love your senior dog!
Whether you have had your now-senior dog since he or she was a puppy or if you and your family are considering adopting a senior dog here are five more reasons to love them!
- Senior dogs have learned about our habits and routines and have seen us at our best and our worst and love us anyway. Unconditional love is undeniable when you share your life with a senior dog.
- If you adopt a senior dog from a shelter you could be saving his life. Also, many older dogs are surrendered by their owners simply because they are old. The dog has done nothing wrong, other than having slowed down and perhaps having the need for a few more veterinarian visits than before. A senior dog rescued from a shelter is probably so scared from being there because he may have left the family he once knew and who once loved him and is now terrified and wondering what happened. This dog will be so grateful and loving you will be amazed at the connection you will have with him.
- Senior dogs are usually house trained and are definitely calmer than a puppy. If you're a senior yourself, a senior dog might be the best companion for you. A senior dog won't require as much walking or training and will be calmer and happy to lie around on the couch and snuggle with you.
- A senior dog is now as big as she is going to get. When you get a puppy you may think you're getting an eight-pound grown-up dog, but instead, this tiny puppy grows into an eighty-pound dog! When you adopt a senior dog, what you see is what you get! No surprises on size.
- The love of a senior dog cannot be compared to any other kind of love. They are happy to sit with you, walk with you, vacation with you... any time they spend with you is the best time of their -- and your -- day.
