Why You Should Adopt A Tabby Cat

  04/24/2021 at 15:43 pm

April 30 is National Adopt A Tabby Cat Day and we have put together a list of seven reasons you should adopt a tabby cat (but you don't have to wait until April 30!)

At Magoo's Pet Outlet we love all pets -- from rodents to fish to cats and dogs. Today we want to celebrate cats -- not just tabby cats, but they are certainly beautiful!

Here are seven reasons you should consider adopting a Tabby Cat on April 30 and celebrate National Tabby Cat Day

  • Tabby cats are friendly. They love to curl up on their pet parent's laps and relax at the end of a long day of napping, chasing feather toys, eating and lying about in the sun.
  • Tabby cats are unique. Tabby cats look like tiny tigers. Their unique stripes and designs make every cat just a little bit different. Did you know that Tabby's can be grey or orange? It's true!
  • Tabby cats love to play. Give your Tabby cat toys to play with. Choose catnip toys, feather toys, sprinkle catnip on their cat tree. Give your Tabby cat a cat tree on which to climb and sleep and scratch his claws.
  • Tabby cats are funny. Tabbies love to roll around, chase balls (yes, cats will chase balls!), hop on the backs of the furniture and scale tall bookshelves in a single bound!
  • Tabby cats help keep you company. During the pandemic, so many people were home alone. Because of the isolation many people turned to shelters and adopted cats and dogs and gave them all loving homes. Your tabby cat will show her love and gratitude for your having adopted her.
  • Tabby cats can teach your children the value of unconditional love and being a cat parent -- from a young age -- shows a child how to be responsible and feed and care for and love the cat who shares their lives.
  • Tabby cats are easy to litter train. If you have ever house-trained a puppy or dog you know how long it can take and how many messes you're cleaning up on your carpets! With a kitty, you can show them where their litter box is and chances are they will use it and not make any messes on the floors!

Even though we are writing about Tabby Cats because it's Tabby Cat Day, these seven reasons apply.

Here are a few more things to consider if you're going to add a kitty to your life.

Cats are all right if they are left home alone if you have to go back to work. Keep in mind, though that even though cats are easier to leave home alone than a dog because they don't need to be taken out and walked while you're at work, they do love to be around their people. If your cat is going to be home alone for a lot of hours a day, you may want to adopt a pair so they aren't lonely.

Cats are great for your health - so are dogs, fish and hamsters. When you are with a pet it takes away the feeling of isolation. Petting a cat or dog has been shown to lower your blood pressure.

When you adopt a cat from a shelter you are not only saving the life of the cat you're adopting, you are also opening up a space at the shelter for a new cat to be accepted in -- you're saving two lives.
