Six Ways To Celebrate National Cat Lovers' Month
Cats are wonderful furry companions. Contrary to popular belief -- cats do love their humans; sure they may not want a lot of belly rubs, but cats do crave companionship.
Cats are definitely "easier" than dogs, but they have unique personalities and unique needs. During the month of December, it is another time to give cats some additional love, attention, toys and scratches behind the ears!
We have put together our list of favorite ways to celebrate National Cat Lovers' Month and we'd love it if you wanted to share some of your ideas with us on our Magoo's Facebook page!
6 Ways To Celebrate National Cat Lovers Month
Pull up a chair, call your favorite cat or two over to your lap and let's jump right into the ways in which to celebrate your cats!
- Buy them new toys. Cats get bored of playing with the same toys. Buy some new ones, swap them out for some of their current toys and watch them reignite their passion for play. Pick up a few feather toys or other interactive toys you can get involved with your cat during some playtime.
- Uncover some unique cat facts to share with your friends or to win a round of trivia! Here's a couple to get you started. A group of cats is called a clowder. A cat’s hearing is better than a dog’s. And a cat can hear high-frequency sounds up to two octaves higher than a human.
- Feed them high-quality food. If you're not sure what the best food for your cat is, talk with your veterinarian. Cats should get meat of some sort in their diets -- canned or organic chicken or fish -- along with kibble. Kibble serves the purpose of helping clean your cat's teeth.
- Adopt a cat. Many animal shelters have been cleared out and all the pets have found forever homes because of COVID. If you've been thinking of adopting another cat or kitten, call your local shelter and see if they have any cats or kittens available to adopt. Don't overlook a senior cat as they have so much love to give!
- Groom your cat. Many cats are self-sufficient enough to thoroughly groom themselves. Longer-haired cats, however, may require some assistance to keep them from getting matted fur.
- Take your cat for a walk. Some cats -- especially if you start training them when they are kittens -- love to walk on a leash and harness. It's a great way to let them get out of doors in a safe way and to help assure they're not going after any birds on your backyard bird feeder! If you have space and budget, construct a catio so your cat can go outdoors in a safe way on his own.
